N.A.S Drives

With the digital lives we lead where do we store all our photos, videos and music? Is it all on your computer? Or stored on an external hard drive for safe keeping?

These days many homes and small businesses have more than one computer and laptop. Well suppose you want to share files between computers in your household or office. Do you create a network and access each other’s machines for the files you require? Or do you install an expensive file server? No, install an N.A.S drive instead!

Why an N.A.S Drive?

Network Attached Storage is a far cheaper option than a file server. There is virtually no maintenance, no operating system to update and maintain and less electricity is consumed.

You can store files and documents you wish to share in one central place for people to access. This would mean that a computer or laptop doesn’t have to be left on just so the files on those machines can be shared. This will be a more efficient and economical way of running your network, as most drives has an interface which allows you to apply user permissions for different folders.

How easy are they to install?

N-A.S drives are easy to install. As most broadband routers have four or more Ethernet ports, just plug the N.A.S drive into a spare Ethernet port. All drives come with instructions on how to install and set up initially. All you would have to do is decide what to store on the drive.

Some N.A.S boxes come with a hard drive included. But if you already have a spare drive you wish to utilise, all the better.

N.A.S start at £49.99 (No drive installed).
